FLF Taxi

Taxi from Lahti to Helsinki and back

About 105 kilometres and 1 h 15 min door to door, at a fixed price, for the times when the train or coach does not fit your schedule.

Central Helsinki is about 105 kilometres from Lahti and the drive takes roughly an hour and 15 minutes in normal traffic. A taxi does not replace the train on every journey, and there is no point pretending otherwise. It is the right choice when there are several passengers, a lot of luggage, a schedule outside train times, or when the trip has to run door to door without changes. For those journeys we give a fixed price in advance, and the price holds however the route behaves.

Typical Lahti to Helsinki journeys for us include concerts and events that finish late, the first meeting of the morning, ferry departures from the West Harbour and Katajanokka, airport connections, family celebrations, and trips with a passenger who needs help moving. A minivan taxi carries 1+8 passengers with their luggage, so for a group of six one vehicle door to door often makes more sense overall than six separate tickets and two changes.

Journeys are booked in advance directly with us on 040 830 2222 or at taksi@flf.fi, and the vehicles leave from our Lahti office at Asentajankatu 1. The price is based on the distance, the time of day, the vehicle size, the number of passengers and whether waiting time or a return leg is needed. Passenger transport carries 14% VAT, and prices for businesses are quoted excluding VAT. You will usually have a quote on the same working day.

When a taxi makes more sense than the train

An honest comparison: for a single passenger the train from Lahti to Helsinki is almost always cheaper and often faster. A taxi is worth it in these situations.

  • Groups: with four to eight passengers the fixed price of one minivan taxi is shared by everyone and comes close to the total cost of tickets.
  • Late evenings: when an event ends after the last train, a taxi is the only way to get home the same night.
  • Door to door: when the start or end point is far from a station, a taxi removes two local journeys and the changes between them.
  • Lots of luggage: moving boxes, exhibition kit, instruments, sports equipment or several suitcases all travel in one go.
  • A passenger who needs help moving: an accessible vehicle avoids station stairs, lifts and changes altogether.
  • An early meeting: when you have to be in Helsinki before the first train arrives, or stop at a second address on the way.

Route, driving time and traffic

The journey follows the Lahdenväylä motorway, national road 4, from Lahti to Helsinki. It is about 105 kilometres to the city centre and normally takes around an hour and 15 minutes. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport sits on the route about 110 kilometres from Lahti, so the airport can be added as a stop along the way if part of the group is flying.

Traffic mainly matters at the Helsinki end. On weekday mornings the motorway and Ring Road III slow down towards the capital region, and in the afternoon the same happens in the other direction. In the evening and at weekends the journey runs close to the hour. Tell us when you need to arrive and we set the departure accordingly, so you do not have to estimate the buffer yourself.

Within Helsinki it pays to give an exact address rather than just a district. Harbour terminals, the gates at Messukeskus and hotel drop-off points are on different sides of their buildings, and when the driver knows the right entrance in advance, loading and unloading happen without a walk from somewhere nearby.

Harbours, stations and venues in Helsinki

West Harbour

Passengers heading for the Tallinn ferries are collected in Lahti so that they reach the terminal before check-in closes. Luggage and any shopping trolleys fit in a minivan taxi.

Katajanokka

Stockholm ferries and cruises. Tell us the sailing time and we work the Lahti pick-up back from it, allowing for the terminal's own busy period.

Helsinki Central Station

When you continue by long-distance train or arrive on one, the pick-up and drop-off are agreed at the station's permitted drop-off point.

Messukeskus

Trade fairs and congresses, with pick-ups from your accommodation or straight from Lahti. An exhibitor's materials travel in the same vehicle as the passengers.

Concerts and arenas

A return to Lahti at the end of the evening from an agreed spot. The return leg goes into the same booking, so the car is there when the event finishes.

Larger groups and several vehicles at once

  • A minivan taxi takes 1+8 passengers. A group of more than eight travels in two or more minivan taxis that leave at the same time.
  • We do not operate buses for more than 8 passengers, but several minivan taxis mean the whole group arrives in Helsinki together rather than waiting around.
  • Vehicles can be arranged so that part of the group is collected from different addresses in Lahti, Hollola or Nastola before setting off.
  • The drivers agree breaks and the route between themselves, so the group stays together even on a longer trip.
  • The return leg for the same group goes into the same booking, including cases where the return time only becomes clear during the evening.

A fixed price on a long transfer

On a long transfer a fixed price matters more than on a short city hop, because time spent sitting in traffic shows up in a metered fare. That is why we price Lahti to Helsinki journeys in advance once you tell us the pick-up and destination addresses, the time and the number of passengers. The agreed price does not change even if Ring Road III is blocked or roadworks appear on the route.

If the trip includes waiting in Helsinki, for example a two-hour meeting or a dinner, say so when booking. Waiting can work out cheaper than two separate journeys, because the vehicle does not drive back to Lahti empty and out again. We compare the two options for you and propose the cheaper one once we know the schedule.

For businesses: meeting trips and guests

Meetings in Helsinki

Management or a team from Lahti to a meeting in the capital region and back in the same vehicle. You can work during the journey, which rarely happens when you drive yourself.

Guests to Lahti

Clients or guests collected in Helsinki from the airport, Central Station or their hotel and brought to your office or event in Lahti at an agreed time.

Contract price and invoicing

Frequently asked questions

How much does a taxi from Lahti to Helsinki cost?

The price is agreed as a fixed amount before the journey and we do not publish a price list. It depends on the exact addresses, the time of day, the vehicle size, the number of passengers and any waiting. The distance to the city centre is about 105 kilometres. For a group of four or more, one minivan taxi spreads the cost, so include the passenger count in your request. We usually reply on the same working day.

How long does the journey from Lahti to Helsinki take?

About an hour and 15 minutes to the city centre in normal traffic, covering roughly 105 kilometres along the Lahdenväylä motorway. During weekday morning and afternoon peaks, traffic at the Helsinki end slows the trip. Tell us when you need to arrive and we set the departure time to match.

Is a taxi worth it instead of the train?

For a single passenger the train is almost always cheaper and often faster. A taxi is worth it when there are several passengers, a lot of luggage, when the journey starts or ends far from a station, when the schedule falls outside train times, or when a passenger needs help moving. Describe your situation and we will say plainly whether a taxi makes sense.

Can I book a taxi for the night or late evening?

Yes. Late-night journeys between Lahti and Helsinki are routine, for example after a concert, the theatre or a dinner. Book them in advance, because fewer vehicles are out on the road at night. The price is agreed beforehand and the car is at the agreed spot even if the event runs slightly over.

How many passengers fit in one vehicle?

A saloon car takes 1–4 passengers and a minivan taxi 1+8 passengers with their luggage. A group of more than eight travels in two or more minivan taxis that leave at the same time and arrive in Helsinki together. We do not operate buses for more than 8 passengers. Tell us the number of passengers and the amount of luggage when booking.

Do you drive to the harbours and Messukeskus as well?

Yes. We drive from Lahti to the West Harbour, Katajanokka, Helsinki Central Station, Messukeskus, the arenas, hotels and the airport. Tell us the sailing or event start time and we work the Lahti pick-up back from it. Give the exact terminal or gate too, so the driver goes straight to the right entrance.
