FLF Taxi Asikkala

Taxi in Asikkala and Vääksy

Vääksy is about 25 kilometres and 25 minutes north of Lahti. In a rural area, booking in advance is the surest way to have a car on time.

Vääksy, the centre of Asikkala, lies about 25 kilometres north of Lahti, a drive of some 25 minutes. FLF's vehicles leave from our Lahti office at Asentajankatu 1, so journeys into Asikkala come from the Lahti direction. The municipality covers a wide area and its housing is scattered between lakes and ridges, which in practice means one thing: in Asikkala it pays to book your ride in advance, especially for evenings, the small hours and weekends, when fewer vehicles are out in the area.

In Asikkala we drive both everyday journeys and summer tourist traffic. The Vääksy canal is one of the best-known summer destinations in Päijät-Häme, and in July a lot of people visit the area around it without a car of their own. Towards Lake Päijänne and Pulkkilanharju the rides are often cottage journeys: the passenger arrives in Lahti by train or coach and continues by taxi to a cottage, a jetty or a marina. The airfield and the Päijät-Häme aviation museum at Vesivehmaa generate journeys of their own, and the Kalkkinen direction is a longer run.

Individual rides are booked through the region's most common dispatch channels and apps, in which FLF vehicles operate. Advance bookings, cottage journeys, minivan taxis for groups and airport transfers are agreed directly with us on 040 830 2222 or at taksi@flf.fi. The price is based on the distance, the time of day, the vehicle size, the number of passengers and any waiting. Passenger transport carries 14% VAT; prices for businesses are quoted excluding VAT.

Vääksy and the villages of Asikkala

Vääksy is the municipal centre of Asikkala and the clearest pick-up point. The services, schools and most of the built-up housing are there, and Lahti is about 25 kilometres away. When you book from Vääksy, a street address is usually enough. Around the canal and the marina in summer it is worth agreeing an exact pick-up spot, because the car parks fill up and it is easier for the driver to come straight to the agreed point.

In the other parts of the municipality, towards Pulkkilanharju, Vesivehmaa and Kalkkinen, the addresses are rural. Here, give the full address when booking and, where it helps, the road name and cottage track number, plus whether a saloon car can get all the way. During the spring thaw, or in winter on a forest track that depends on ploughing, the pick-up is often agreed at the junction instead, which is worth mentioning straight away.

Long distances mean that in Asikkala a car may not be with you within minutes if you only book when you need it. An advance booking solves that: once the time is agreed, the vehicle leaves Lahti early enough and is at the agreed spot. Evening and weekend rides, onward connections from the train and small-hours airport runs are always worth arranging beforehand.

Rides to cottages on Lake Päijänne

A large share of journeys in Asikkala begin with a passenger arriving by public transport in Lahti and needing the last leg to a cottage.

  • Pick-up at Lahti Matkakeskus or the railway station and a ride straight to a cottage on the Päijänne shore at an agreed time.
  • The return works the same way: from the cottage to Lahti for a train, coach or flight once the departure time is known.
  • Shopping bags, suitcases, pets and seasonal belongings travel in the same minivan taxi.
  • For boaters, rides to a jetty, marina or boatyard when your own car is on the other side of the lake.
  • At the end of a long cottage track the pick-up can be agreed at the junction. Tell us what the track is like when booking.
  • Taking guests to a cottage and home again at the end of the evening in one minivan taxi for 1+8 passengers.

The canal, Pulkkilanharju and Vesivehmaa

Vääksy canal

At the height of summer people come to the canal and its restaurants without a car. Pick-ups and returns from Lahti or from cottages are agreed in advance.

Pulkkilanharju

The scenic ridge road and its lay-bys are a popular destination. Rides are usually arranged on an out, wait and back basis, as there is little public transport.

Vesivehmaa

Events at the airfield and the Päijät-Häme aviation museum are summer destinations a group can reach by minivan taxi, with the return booked in the same order.

Kalkkinen

This village and canal in the north of the municipality make a longer run from Lahti. For these journeys an advance booking is effectively essential.

Accessible taxis and social care rides in Asikkala

Our accessible minivan taxis meet Traficom's requirements: a wheelchair space of at least 0.75 × 1.10 metres, an interior height of 1.40–1.45 metres, a lift or ramp, wheelchair restraints and a seat belt. The driver assists you in and out of the vehicle. In Asikkala accessible journeys are often trips from Vääksy or the villages to Päijät-Häme Central Hospital in Lahti, to an appointment or to rehabilitation, where the schedule is tied to an appointment time. Mention the wheelchair, any need for a lift and any escort when booking.

Journeys under the Disability Services Act and the Social Welfare Act, the VPL and SHL rides, are dispatched in Päijät-Häme by Lahden Aluetaksi, tel. 03 2100 500. Rides are booked at least an hour in advance and cancelled at least 45 minutes before, the pick-up happens within ±15 minutes of the agreed time and an escort travels free of charge. FLF operates these journeys as a contract partner through that dispatch centre, so the booking is always made there. Kela-reimbursed taxi journeys are booked through the region's Kela booking number.

Minivan taxi for groups and celebrations

  • A minivan taxi takes 1+8 passengers: family parties, confirmations and birthdays at a cottage or village hall in one vehicle.
  • Guests are collected from several addresses and taken home or back to their accommodation at an agreed time.
  • Transfers for hobby groups and clubs from Asikkala to Lahti or elsewhere in Päijät-Häme at a fixed price.
  • A group of more than eight travels in several minivan taxis at the same time. We do not operate buses for more than 8 passengers.
  • Tell us how many addresses are on the route when booking, so the time and price are worked out in advance.

Airport and longer transfers

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is about 135 kilometres from Vääksy and the drive takes roughly an hour and 40 minutes. In practice that means leaving Asikkala some 20 to 30 minutes earlier than you would from central Lahti. Tell us your departure time and the type of flight when booking, and we will propose a pick-up time that covers the drive and enough time in the terminal. The price is fixed and agreed before you travel.

Other long transfers are arranged the same way at a fixed price: from Asikkala to Helsinki, the harbours, Tampere or Jyväskylä. On longer journeys it is worth saying whether waiting is needed at the destination, because waiting can be cheaper than two separate journeys when the vehicle does not drive back empty and out again.

Pricing

We do not publish a price list, because distances in Asikkala vary a great deal: a ride within Vääksy and a cottage journey out to Kalkkinen are very different trips. Passenger transport carries 14% VAT; prices for businesses are quoted excluding VAT.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book a taxi to Vääksy in advance?

Yes, and in Asikkala that is the recommended way. Call 040 830 2222 or email taksi@flf.fi with the address, the time and the number of passengers. Advance booking is especially worthwhile for evenings, weekends and small-hours departures, because fewer vehicles are out in a rural area than in the city. You receive a confirmation and a fixed price by message.

Do you drive to cottages on the Päijänne shore?

We do. The most common cottage journey starts at Lahti Matkakeskus or the railway station and ends at a cottage, a jetty or a marina. When booking, give the full address, the road name and whether a saloon car can get all the way. During the spring thaw or on an unploughed track the pick-up is agreed at the junction. Shopping, luggage and pets travel in the same vehicle.

How far is it from Asikkala to the airport?

Helsinki-Vantaa is about 135 kilometres from Vääksy and the drive takes roughly an hour and 40 minutes, so you leave some 20 to 30 minutes earlier than from central Lahti. Tell us the departure time and whether the flight is domestic, within Schengen or outside it, and we will propose a pick-up time and give you a fixed price.

Is an accessible vehicle available in Asikkala?

Yes. Our accessible minivan taxis meet Traficom's requirements on lifts or ramps, wheelchair restraints and dimensions, and the driver assists you in and out. The vehicle comes from the Lahti direction, so an accessible ride is best booked in advance so that it arrives in time for an appointment. Mention the wheelchair and any escort when booking.

How are social care rides booked in Asikkala?

Journeys under the Disability Services Act and the Social Welfare Act are dispatched in Päijät-Häme by Lahden Aluetaksi on 03 2100 500. Book at least an hour in advance and cancel at least 45 minutes before. The pick-up happens within ±15 minutes of the agreed time and an escort travels free of charge. FLF drives these journeys through that dispatch centre as a contract partner. Kela journeys are booked through the region's Kela number.

How many passengers fit in a vehicle?

A saloon car takes 1–4 passengers and a minivan taxi 1+8 with their belongings. On cottage journeys a minivan taxi is often the practical choice, because luggage, shopping and seasonal items all fit in the same vehicle. A group of more than eight travels in several minivan taxis at the same time, as we do not operate buses for more than 8 passengers.
