Courier service and same-day deliveries in Lahti and Päijät-Häme

A small, urgent consignment collected and delivered the same day. One driver from pick-up to delivery, with no terminal or sorting in between.

A courier service is for the situation where a small consignment has to arrive today: a signed contract in another town, a key for a building site, a laboratory sample on its way to the lab, or a spare part for a workshop that is standing idle without it. A taxi collects the item from the agreed address and drives it straight to the recipient, with no terminal or sorting in between. The service suits businesses, public sector organisations and private customers, and the job is often a single item that has to be there by a specific hour. We run courier jobs from Lahti and the rest of Päijät-Häme towards Kanta-Häme and Uusimaa, and our taxi office is at Asentajankatu 1 in Lahti.

Courier jobs are always agreed directly with us rather than through an app: call 040 830 2222 or email taksi@flf.fi. Tell us the collection address and contact person, what is being sent, the size and weight, the delivery address and recipient, and how urgent the job is. The driver calls the recipient before arriving, and you are told once the item has been handed over. If the same delivery repeats, we agree a fixed route and a fixed price so you do not have to place a separate order every time.

The price is made up of the distance, the driver's time and the urgency. Evenings, nights and weekends are priced differently from weekdays, and waiting time at either end also counts. A one-off job is priced as a single delivery, a repeating route as a fixed route price and a wider arrangement as a monthly contract price. We do not publish a price list, because the same trip costs a different amount on a weekday morning and on a Saturday evening. For businesses prices are quoted excluding VAT, usually on the same working day.

What we carry by taxi

A typical courier job is a single item that cannot wait until tomorrow and whose value or deadline will not survive a sorting line.

Documents and contracts

Contracts for signature, tender documents, original certificates and customs paperwork delivered the same day. Handed to a named person, not left in a letterbox.

Keys and access passes

A key for a flat, a site or a vehicle from a property manager, maintenance company or one employee to another. A common job when the key is in the wrong town and work is waiting.

Samples and laboratory samples

Patient and product samples to the laboratory at an agreed time. Samples that require a set temperature travel in our logistics unit's temperature-controlled vehicles.

Spare parts and tools

A spare part for a workshop or building site, a missing tool for a fitter, a component back from service. One collection, one delivery, no terminal handling.

Pharmacy and medicine deliveries

An urgent medicine from a pharmacy to a customer or a care unit. Larger and regular pharmaceutical transport runs on dedicated vehicles under its own requirements.

Forgotten items and shop deliveries

A laptop, charger or passport left at home and sent after the traveller, or a small shop delivery to a customer or another branch the same day.

Size limits: what fits in a taxi and when you need a van

A taxi is the right vehicle for a small, urgent consignment. Larger loads go on our van with driver service, and a regular multi-stop round belongs to distribution transport.

  • Rule of thumb: one person can lift the item unaided, and it fits in a car boot or in the load space of a minivan taxi.
  • A saloon car carries envelopes, folders, sample cases, small boxes and individual spare parts.
  • A minivan taxi has room for a larger box or several items when passenger seats are not needed.
  • Pallets, roll cages, loads that need a tail lift and consignments of several hundred kilos belong in a van or a lorry, not a taxi.
  • Daily deliveries to several recipients work out cheaper as a planned distribution round than as separate courier jobs.
  • Dangerous goods and food consignments that need an unbroken cold chain are always agreed separately before ordering, so the right vehicle is sent.

Why a taxi courier is not the same as a parcel service

In a parcel network every consignment passes through a terminal: it is collected, taken to sorting, moved onto a linehaul vehicle and delivered the next day or the day after. With a taxi courier that middle stage does not exist. The driver takes the item in hand at collection and gives it to the recipient, and it goes nowhere in between. In practice that means two things: time is measured in hours rather than days, and the sender knows at every moment who is holding the consignment.

One driver for the whole trip also means you can agree things a sorting line cannot handle. The item can be handed to a named person, the driver can call the recipient before arriving, wait for a signature and take a signed copy or a part for exchange back with them. If the recipient is not there, the consignment is not left at the door: the driver contacts whoever placed the order and you decide together what happens next.

A taxi courier does not replace a parcel network, and it is not meant to. When there are many consignments, none of them urgent, and price is what matters, the parcel network is cheaper. A courier taxi earns its keep when being late costs more than the transport does: a production line standing still, a deadline closing, a sample whose analysis is tied to a specific hour, or a customer waiting at a door for a key. Tell us in your enquiry by what time the item has to be there, and we will say plainly whether it can be done.

Collection and delivery times in Päijät-Häme

Collection is always agreed when you order, because the departure time depends on where a free vehicle happens to be. The times below are driving times from central Lahti, not promises about collection.

  • Within Lahti the distances are short: the city centre, Asentajankatu, the Matkakeskus travel centre and the central hospital are minutes apart.
  • Hollola and Salpakangas about 10 kilometres, around 15 minutes. Nastola about 20 kilometres, around 20 minutes.
  • Orimattila about 25 kilometres and Heinola about 35 kilometres, so roughly 25 to 35 minutes of driving each way.
  • Vääksy in Asikkala about 25 kilometres to the north, around 25 minutes.
  • Central Helsinki about 105 kilometres, around 1 h 15 min. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport about 110 kilometres, 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic.
  • At peak times the Lahdenväylä motorway and Ring III slow down jobs in the capital region, so leave some slack in the schedule.

Temperature-sensitive and valuable consignments

Medicines, vaccines and some laboratory samples will not survive sitting in a car in summer heat or sub-zero cold. When a consignment requires a set temperature it does not travel in an ordinary taxi boot but in our logistics unit's temperature-controlled vehicles, where the load space stays within the agreed range and the temperature is logged for the whole journey. Temperature-controlled transport and pharmaceutical transport each have their own page covering the vehicles and monitoring in more detail. When ordering, tell us the required temperature range and how long the item may be in transit.

With valuable consignments the chain of custody is what counts. The driver receives the item from a named person, it stays in the car with the driver and is never left unattended, and it is handed over in person to the agreed recipient. Our drivers are our own employees and we run their training ourselves, so the consignment is not passed to an unknown party along the way. If handling needs something particular, such as staying upright, staying dry or a two-person lift, say so when ordering and we will send the right vehicle and a second driver if needed.

For businesses: recurring courier jobs under contract

Contract courier

Recurring courier jobs get fixed pricing and their own booking channel. Ordering takes one message, with no separate price discussion each time.

Invoiced to the company

Jobs are collected onto a monthly consolidated invoice showing the date, route and cost centre of every delivery. A corporate taxi account covers passenger journeys on the same invoice.

Fixed routes

The same route at the same time every day, for example collecting samples from branches or moving documents between offices. A regular driver learns the addresses and contacts.

How to order a courier delivery

Describe the consignment, its size, weight and number of items, plus any special requirements such as temperature, staying upright or high value.

  3. 03

    Delivery address and recipient

Give the delivery address, the recipient's name and phone number, who may receive the item and whether a signature is needed.

Pricing

The price of a courier delivery is made up of the distance, the driver's time and the urgency. The time of day, waiting at either end, the vehicle type and whether the job repeats also affect it. We do not publish a price list, because the same trip costs a different amount on a weekday morning and on a Saturday evening. For single jobs and fixed routes we give a fixed price up front, so you know the cost before the car sets off. For businesses prices are quoted excluding VAT.

Single delivery

One urgent consignment from collection to delivery at a fixed price.

Fixed route

The same collection and delivery on agreed days and times at a fixed route price.

Monthly contract price

Courier jobs, fixed routes and passenger journeys under one agreement and one consolidated invoice.

Frequently asked questions

What does a courier service cost?

The price is calculated from the distance, the time the driver spends and the urgency. The time of day, waiting at collection or delivery and the vehicle type also affect it. A short job within Lahti is clearly cheaper than a run to Helsinki and back. You get a fixed price before the car sets off once you tell us the addresses, the size of the item and the schedule. For businesses prices are quoted excluding VAT.

How quickly will the consignment arrive?

A courier job is usually handled the same day and often within hours of ordering, but the exact time is agreed when you order. Collection depends on where a free vehicle is at that moment, and then on the driving time: minutes within Lahti, around 15 to 20 minutes to Hollola and Nastola, around 1 h 15 min to central Helsinki. Tell us your deadline and we will confirm whether it can be met.

What can be sent by taxi and what is the size limit?

We carry documents, keys, samples, spare parts, tools, medicine deliveries and small shop consignments. The rule of thumb is that one person can lift the item and it fits in a car boot or the load space of a minivan taxi. Pallets, roll cages and loads of several hundred kilos go by van. Dangerous goods and cold-chain food consignments are agreed separately before ordering.

Do you deliver at weekends and in the evenings?

Yes, by arrangement. Courier jobs also run in the evenings and at weekends when they are agreed in advance directly with us on 040 830 2222 or at taksi@flf.fi. Evening, night and weekend jobs are priced differently from weekday work, so mention the timing when you order. For contract customers weekend cover can be written into the agreement.

Will the recipient sign for the consignment?

Yes, when that is agreed at the time of ordering. The driver hands the item to a named person and takes a signature, and whoever placed the order is told it has been delivered. If the recipient is not there, the item is not left at the door: the driver contacts the orderer instead. Say in advance who may receive the item and whether a signed copy should come back.

Can it be invoiced to the company?

It can. A business gets an invoicing agreement under which courier jobs go onto the company invoice and a monthly consolidated invoice. The invoice shows the date, route and cost centre of every delivery, so costs land on the right project or unit. The same agreement covers passenger journeys, so taxi rides and courier jobs arrive on one invoice. Prices are quoted excluding VAT.
